After dodging a legislative bullet, Foutch is ready to pull trigger on arena project

Steve Foutch, CEO of Foutch Brothers LLC, breathed a sign of relief May 12, when the 2017 session of the General Assembly adjourned without gutting the state’s historic tax credit program.

Can frose (slushy, frozen rose wine) get any easier? With the help of a blender and ice cream maker, it certainly can.

Ingredients

One 750-milliliter bottle rose wine, chilled
2 cups strawberries, hulled and halved, plus extra for garnish
1/2 cup superfine sugar
1/3 cup lemon juice (from about 3 lemons)

Directions

Special equipment: an ice cream maker

Pour the rose, strawberries, sugar and lemon juice in a blender and puree until smooth. Pour into an ice cream maker and churn on the coldest setting until thick and slushy, 45 minutes to 1 hour (see Cook’s Note). Pour into wine glasses and garnish with strawberries.

Cook’s Note: Freezing time may vary depending on ice cream maker model.

4 area entrepreneurs win EY awards, go on to nationals

The EY Etrepreneur of the Year Award winners for the Central Midwest include four people from the Kansas City area.

The four were among 12 finalists from the metro area. The winners are: Marty Bicknell of Leawood-based Mariner Holdings LLC; John Goodbrake of Belton-based Master’s Transportation Inc.; David Johnson of North Kansas City-based Maxus Properties Inc.; and Peter Mallouk of Leawood-based Creative Planning Inc.
