Instagram rankings give KC doughnut shop the crown

In Kansas and Missouri, doughnuts are king.

To scout out the most popular restaurant in each state, plus Washington, D.C., USA Today skipped the typical Yelp reviews and turned to Instagram.

It used an Instagram data specialist to find the restaurants that users posted about the most. For Missouri, a Kansas City-based doughnut shop came out on top.

A business venture that started in Kansas City played host to the first family during the Christmas weekend.

Breakout KC’s Hawaii location, Breakout Waikiki, was visited by President Barack Obama, his daughters and other family members on Christmas Eve.

Value of new construction started in KC area rises sharply

The value of new construction started in the Kansas City area last month blew past November 2015 levels, according to a report released Thursday by Dodge Data & Analytics.

According to the report, construction was started on $396.7 million worth of nonresidential and residential construction in November in the 15-county bistate metropolitan area. That was nearly two and a half times the $160.9 million in construction started in the area in November 2015.
